Weekly Announcement (July 27-Aug 2)

July 26, 2008

Evening Prayer takes place through the month of July at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays in St. Anne’s Chapel.

Today’s Adult Sunday School Classes: Theology A La Carte, led by Erin Wells, Donovan Room, 8:50-9:50 a.m. From June to August the class will hold informal talks on wide-ranging topics, with Scripture as reference, on any theological, ethical, and moral issues which those attending wish to discuss. The four Scripture readings appointed for each Sunday may be used as a starting point, in order to apply them to historical and contemporary subjects. But many other readings and unlimited directions of study can be pursued. As always, drop-ins are welcome!

Salvation Belongs to the Lord: A Study in the Book of Jonah, a 5-week class led by Justin Holcomb, Gibson Room, 10:10-10:50 a.m.  The purpose of the Book of Jonah is to show God’s people that His plan is exceedingly compassionate (God is gracious) and exceedingly certain (God is sovereign).

Staff Note: Dave Johnson is on vacation. He will return to Christ Church on August 3rd.

Westminster Canterbury: Join us for Holy Eucharist at Westminster Canterbury on Wednesday, July 30th at 11:15 a.m.

Anyone who likes to sing is welcome to join the Adult Choir each Sunday at 10:15 a.m. in the choir room to prepare to lead the hymns and psalm singing and a familiar/easy offertory anthem.

Children and Youth in Grades 1-8 and their Parents: Plans are in the works for the new choir season, which will begin in September. If you have interest, for more information and to coordinate schedules, please contact Elizabeth Norfrey after a service, by e-mail at davidneliz@christchurchcville.org or call 434 806-1129.

Congratulations to Christ Church’s Softball Team! For those who missed our team’s game on July 18th against University Baptist, here is a report from Frank Robinson: “We scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th (capped by Bob Fenwick’s 2-out game winning RBI single) to defeat University Baptist 10-9, a loss that left them stunned in disbelief.”  Their next game will be played on August 1st. Email Frank Robinson for time and place. His email address is: cessna182pilot@gmail.com. Come out and cheer them on to victory!

Casserole Ministry: If you know of anyone who is sick or could use dinner delivered to their house, please contact Merle Robertson at 434.973.2749.

Welcome

July 26, 2008

Welcome to Christ Church’s new website.  We revamped the site and added a blog in order to post weekly announcements, ministry opportunities, church community events, and some random musings from the staff.

Some of the site is still under construction, but we’ll get it all up to speed soon.

The Word

When the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. This Spirit he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. (Titus 3:4-7)

The Prayer

O God, you make us glad by the yearly festival of the birth of your only Son Jesus Christ: Grant that we, who joyfully receive him as our Redeemer, may with sure confidence behold him when he comes to be our Judge; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. (Book of Common Prayer, p. 212)
