Adult Sunday School Class: 8:50-9:50 a.m: The Grammar of God (led by Erin Wells). This class will meet Oct. 12-Dec. 14th in the Donovan room. Please see the bulletin board outside of Meade Hall for a full description. Next week’s topic: Temptation.

Clergy-led Adult Sunday School: 10:10-10:50 a.m.: Upcoming Schedule:. Nov. 23 - Why Thanksgiving?; Dec. 14 -  Why Christmas?; Jan. 4 - New Year Resolutions. The class meets in the Gibson room.

The Church office will be closed on Nov. 27 & 28.

The men of Christ Church are invited to attend a weekly Bible Study on the Book of Romans, Tuesday mornings from 7:15 - 8:00 in Meade Hall. Bagels and coffee are available beginning at 7:00.

The women of Christ Church are invited to attend a weekly Bible study on David, Thursday mornings in the Gibson room at 9:30. They are using a study guide by Beth Moore entitled, A Heart Like His.

Children’s Choir (gr. 1-4)  will not meet this Wednesday, Nov. 26th, but members are welcome to attend the Youth Choir rehearsal tonight at 5:30 p.m. The groups are preparing music for Dec. 21 and Christmas Eve. New members are welcome!

The Adult Handbell Choir has one more ringing position open. The group is preparing music for the Lessons and Carols service on Dec. 21. Rehearsals are Sundays 6:30-7:30 p.m. Contact David Norfrey if interested.

No Youth Group this or next weekend; the Middle School Lock-In is Dec. 5, and the All-Youth Christmas Party is Dec.7th during Youth Group time.

5 o’clock Dinner Helpers Needed: Please contact Merle Robertson at 973-2749 if you are willing to assist with serving dinner to the UVA students after the evening service. A commitment of 3 hours, from 4:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m., factors in attendance at the service.

Profile Committee Formed: A committee has been formed to establish a profile of Christ Church. The purpose is three-fold: it was requested by the Bishop as part of Paul’s appointment as “Priest-in-Charge,” it will serve as a guide for Paul if he is appointed Rector at the end of his two-year term, and it will be used in the unlikely event that a traditional search must be conducted for a Rector.  Members of the Committee welcome your input  You may contact the Chair, Bob Garland Jr., at bgarlandjr@aol.com or 293-2045.

USHERS NEEDED:  We have 2 vacancies for the 9AM Service on Team III (3rd Sunday of the month).  First come, first to serve.  Please contact Bob Garland, Jr. at 293-2045 or bgarlandjr@aol.com. Training is free!!

Advent Wreath-Making: Please remember to clip greenery from your yard and bring it to church on Nov. 30 for our intergenerational event at 10 a.m. in Meade Hall.

The Christ Church ECW is planning their annual Greens and Goodies Sale to benefit Christ Church.  If you are interested in making a contribution or participating, this is a great chance to get connected.  The sale is planned for December 7th, from 8am to 1pm.  We need committee members, help with setting up or, just folks to bring items to donate for the sale. Collection of items will happen at the church on Saturday, Dec. 6th from 12 to 3pm.  Questions: Contact Deborah McAndrews, phone 293-2290, or email: deborahmcald@earthlink.net. Thanks!!

PACEM (People and Churches Engaged in Ministry) is an interfaith collaboration that provides food and shelter to Charlottesville’s homeless during the cold winter months.  Christ Episcopal Church is once again partnering with Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church for the men’s homeless shelter from January 10-23, 2009.  We will need at least 60 volunteers during that time for a variety of jobs including visiting, food, laundry, set up and clean up.  PACEM is a great way for you to help local people in need while bonding with your fellow parishioners.  Individuals, couples, or entire families can help.  Please contact Maureen Scott at mmscott89@aol.com or Terri Taylor taylor.terri@gmail.com to volunteer.

Angel Tree Program: There will be a Christmas party for children of incarcerated parents on December 6th at Christ Church from 1-3:30 pm.  Please consider participating in the Angel Tree program this Christmas. Contact Lindsey Holcomb at lindseyvardy@yahoo.com.

The Schoolhouse Thrift Shop (owned by the Diocese) needs new or gently used toys or children’s books for their Dec. 6 Toy Sale. Volunteers to help prepare for it will be appreciated! 1147 E. Rio Rd. (next to Church of Our Saviour). Hours: Tu-Fr 10-4, Sat. 10-1; 434-973-2271.

Casserole Ministry: If you know of anyone who is sick or could use dinner delivered to their house. Call Merle Robertson at 973-2749.

The United Thank Offering Fall Ingathering is today. Every penny of your United Thank Offering supports grants for both domestic and foreign mission work. You do not need a UTO envelope to make a donation. Simply write UTO on the memo line of your check and make it payable to Christ Church. If you are donating cash, UTO envelopes will be available in the Narthex. Please write your name on the envelope. Thank you.

Clergy-led Adult Sunday School: 10:10-10:50 a.m.: The Supremacy of Christ. Dave Johnson, Justin Holcomb and Paul Walker are teaching a class on Jesus-who he is and what he did according to the book of Colossians. The class will meet in the Monticello room today.

The Word

When the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. This Spirit he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. (Titus 3:4-7)

O God, you make us glad by the yearly festival of the birth of your only Son Jesus Christ: Grant that we, who joyfully receive him as our Redeemer, may with sure confidence behold him when he comes to be our Judge; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
