Soup Kitchen Helpers Needed This Summer

If you have time on your hands this summer, Loaves & Fishes could use your help. We need folks to help serve lunch every Tuesday from 12-1 p.m. Please call the head of our Soup Kitchen, Gene Bogen, at 202-8274, or email him at bogen1519@comcast.net. Thanks!

Christ Church Classics Series

This month, we will read Jacob’s Room by Virginia Woolf. This is a book that portrays everyday events with great imagination and creativity. The novel is short, but read attentively. We will meet on Thursday, August 5th, in the Gibson Room, at 7:30pm, and, of course, refreshments will be served. Please e-mail Zach Williams at zmw19@hotmail.com with questions and to receive announcements about the Christ Church Classics Series.

Meals for Dave & Cate

Jen Simpson, a parishioner at Christ Church, is organizing meal deliveries for Cate and Dave Zahl, whose baby is due in August, from Aug. 27th- Sept. 30th. If you would like to sign up, please visit the following website: http://www.TakeThemAMeal.com and put in the last name of Zahl along with the password Baby. If you have any questions, contact Jen: jwsnwu@gmail.com. Thanks!

Book of Common Prayer

We have ordered 25 new BCP’s to replace some of the tattered ones in our pews. If you would like to purchase one and have a bookplate dedication inserted in the front of the book in memory of a loved one, please contact the church office at 293-2347. The cost is $15.

Bible Studies

The Women’s Bible Study, which meets on Thursday mornings from 9:30-11 a.m., will begin again on Sept. 9th. We have decided to offer a study on Praying the Names of Jesus, using a book by Anne Spangler. This is a 26 week course, taking us into May 2011. Please notify Libby Palmer if you would like to join the group or order the book (billlibsam@embarqmail.com; 978-2138).

The Men’s Bible Study meets at 7:15 a.m. on Thursday mornings in Meade Hall (coffee & bagels available at 7 a.m.).

2010 Altar Flowers & Wine, Wafers, & Candles

If you would like to dedicate altar flowers or wine, wafers and candles for 2010, please call the church office (293-2347). Even if you have done so in previous years you need you to call and confirm, as some people change their minds about dedications, move away, etc. Thank you for your cooperation.

will take place during the 10 o’clock Sunday School hour, Feb. 21-March 21.

The Word

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

The Prayer

Almighty God, who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the day of the Lord's resurrection, may be raised from the death of sin by your life-giving Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. (Book of Common Prayer, p. 222)
