Welcome

Since our beginning in 1820 as Charlottesville’s first church, Christ Episcopal Church has proclaimed the good news of Jesus Christ. Each week we hope to communicate the love of God summarized so powerfully by St. Paul in his letter to the Romans: “while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” This gospel message is for one and all and is the foundation of our life at Christ Church.

Because of His love for us in Jesus Christ, we know that God ALWAYS cares. God is always ready to listen. God wants you to tell Him everything – no detail is too small. As we read in 1 Peter, God asks that we cast our cares on Him, because He cares for us.

Yet, sometimes, it is helpful to have someone else on whom to cast your cares. To be known and to be loved by another person brings help, hope and healing into the worst situations.

Please know that we at Christ Church stand ready to listen to you and pray for you. When you have cares that need casting, please let us know. We are here for you.

Ever Yours,

Paul

  • Collect for Purity

Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. (Book of Common Prayer, page 355)

The Word

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

The Prayer

Almighty God, who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the day of the Lord's resurrection, may be raised from the death of sin by your life-giving Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. (Book of Common Prayer, p. 222)
