Where is Grace in the midst of the conversation about race? Presiding Bishop Michael Curry, who brought a listening ear to Charlottesville in August 2017, has provided a film-based dialogue series on race and faith for our use. We offered this class at Christ Church Fall of 2019 and it was very well received. Rector Paul Walker and Assoc. Rector Marilu Thomas will be co-facilitating a shorter, three-part intro with three sessions of 1.5 hours, including films, readings and conversation on Zoom as our summer Adult Ed series. Our hope is to provide a grace-led collective learning experience.
Sessions will be Sunday morning from 10-11:30 am. Our first Zoom session together will be July 12th. Second session on July 19th. Third session on July 26th.
How much experience do you need talking about race? None.
Are all experiences, questions and perspectives welcome? Yes.
Will you sometimes be uncomfortable? Yes. But we will lessen the discomfort by sharing it.
Will we allow disrespect? Absolutely not.
Is it a forum to build friendships? It is a place to be a friend through shared experience.
Will it take courage and openness to participate? The Holy Spirit will be with us.
