Advocacy for Victims of Abuse
Advocacy for Victims of Abuse (AVA) is a ministry of Christ Episcopal Church that seeks to promote safety and healing for women and children who are survivors of or vulnerable to abuse.
If you have experienced domestic, sexual, physical, verbal, or emotional abuse and would like information on community resources for safety, healing, and support please contact the AVA coordinator at ava@christchurchville.org. If you are in an emergency please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
In addition to ministering to individuals, AVA also serves churches by offering educational resources to equip leaders so they can respond to victims of violence in ways that are compassionate, practical, and informed.
We will probably never know the exact statistics of violence as numerous cases go unreported and victims often live in silence due to fear, shame, and guilt. What we do know is that the experience of violence is prevalent and that victims come from all walks of life.
AVA seeks to:
- Provide resources to victims of abuse
- Equip churches to minister to victims
- Promote preventative measures against abuse by challenging beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors that perpetuate or condone violence against women and children.
