Alice Layman

Choir Director and Organist

Alice holds degrees in Organ Performance (B.A. Hollins College, 1974 and M. Mus. University of Kentucky, 1977).  Since 1977, Alice has served several Episcopal churches in Charlottesville: Church of Our Saviour (1977-1982), Christ Episcopal Church (1982-1996) and St. Paul’s, Ivy (2000-2012), and she returned to Christ Episcopal Church in 2012.  Alice now directs the Adult Choir, the Junior Choir, and the Bell Choir, and she plays organ for most services.  She also oversees the carillon and Bach’s Lunch Concert Series (in May).   Locally, Alice serves as the accompanist for the Virginia Concert, UVa Musical Theatre, and for several high school choirs.  In her free time, she is an avid duplicate bridge player.  Alice is married to Steve Layman, and they have two grown daughters, Laura and Martha.
