Children’s Ministry

Our curriculum for the Sunday School at Christ Church is aptly called “Show Me Jesus.”  With this overarching theme we have a loving team of teachers who desire to show our children the love of Christ in word, song, creative expression and action. Programming is organized by Kemp Hill, Melville Krebs and Consi Palmer. For more information, to enroll your child or to volunteer please contact Consi Palmer at 434.977.7220 or call the church office at 434.293.2347.

During the 9:00AM service, children ages 3 – 8 are invited to Children’s Chapel.  Children are excused from church during the sermon and return during “the peace” in time to take communion with their family. Simple songs and finger plays help children learn the Bible story. Interactive Bible stories give the details and heart of each Bible story as they are read and children are guided in responding and reacting.  Chapel is approximately 30 minutes and is led by members of our teaching team.

Sunday School classes run from 10:10 AM to 10:50 AM.  Classes are held in the following locations:

  • Preschool – Kindergarten: Upstairs Fitzhugh House
  • Grades 1-2 – Downstairs classroom across from Fitzhugh House wing
  • Grade 3 – Upstairs at the end of the hall
  • Grades 4-5 – Classroom beside the Monticello Room

  • Collect for Purity

Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. (Book of Common Prayer, page 355)

The Word

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

The Prayer

Almighty God, who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the day of the Lord's resurrection, may be raised from the death of sin by your life-giving Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. (Book of Common Prayer, p. 222)
