Women’s Bible Study

The Women’s Bible Study, which meets on Thursday mornings from 9:30-11 a.m., will begin again on Sept. 9th. We have decided to offer a study on Praying the Names of Jesus, using a book by Anne Spangler. This is a 26 week course, taking us into May 2011. Please notify Libby Palmer if you would like to join the group or order the book (billlibsam@embarqmail.com; 978-2138).

What is the ECW?

ECW stands for Episcopal Church Women. We are an organization at Christ Church that exists for the purposes of bringing women together to serve God, our church, our community and the world. Every woman is invited to come and participate in any of the things that we do.

What do we do?

  • Periodic meetings are held to discuss business, listen to a speaker, and enjoy a meal together.
  • The Women’s Bible Study meets each Thursday morning at 9:30 in the Gibson Room. Childcare is provided. Please contact the church for more info.
  • The Annual Greens and Goodies Sale is held during Advent to raise money for outreach.
  • Each year we hold a Women’s Retreat each year. Contact the church office for more information.
  • We have a prayer chain that sends notices out regularly by email to anyone who would like to pray.
  • We have a Casserole Ministry that delivers a casserole to church members who have had babies or to anyone who is ill.
  • The Shawl ministry meets every other week to knit prayer shawls and baby blankets for parishioners.

Please contact Steph Johnson at cvillesteph@embarqmail.com or Christie Walker at the5walkers@embarqmail.com for more information.

  • Collect for Purity

Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. (Book of Common Prayer, page 355)

The Word

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

The Prayer

Almighty God, who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the day of the Lord's resurrection, may be raised from the death of sin by your life-giving Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. (Book of Common Prayer, p. 222)
