Myth Buster #2: The Construction of Habitat for Humanity Homes Creates Less Diverse Neighborhoods
This myth is simply not true! Habitat for Humanity focuses on building mixed-income neighborhoods. Why Mixed-Income? According to Garrett Trent, Associate Director of Community Partnerships at Habitat for Humanity, Charlottesville:
"Habitat focuses our work on building mixed-income neighborhoods that are racially, ethnically, and culturally diverse. Habitat partners with developers who appreciate our work and want to create affordable homeownership opportunities for local residents. For example, in Lochlyn Hill, Habitat completed 7 homes back in 2019, and we are now in the process of building 5 more homes.

Our community and the country has an entrenched legacy of segregated neighborhoods. Mixed-income neighborhoods start to break down this separation and, we believe, can help begin to heal our social fabric."
