Opportunities to serve in Charlottesville (and beyond!)
Outreach at Christ Church
Christ Church Community Lunch
Serving the downtown area for over 30 years, the Christ Church Community Lunch offers a nourishing meal Every Tuesday from 12pm-1pm. Prepared and served by volunteers, we provide a café style lunch to everyone who walks through our doors. A meal is not all we are serving at Christ Church—we are connecting on a personal level to offer hope and encouragement to all of God’s children. A welcoming environment, a warm hello and a good meal communicates the love of Christ in a profound way.

Christ Church Garden Guild
The Christ Church Garden Guild maintains three beautiful gardens. The Magruder House vegetable garden, the Downtown Counseling Center flower garden and our Memorial Garden. The produce grown serves our Christ Church Community Lunch and provides for our Thursday produce stand while the Downtown Counseling Center and Memorial gardens create beauty for those visiting. Through gardening, we become stewards of God’s creation, cultivating, planting and protecting, while growing in community and friendship.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville
Habitat brings people together to build and rebuild homes and communities while catalyzing new pathways to safe, decent, affordable housing. We participate in several build days throughout the year.

Charlottesville Community Local Mission Week
Once a year in the Spring, we spend the week volunteering within the ministries at Christ Church and with community organizations. Opportunities have included Tuesday Community Lunch and our gardens maintained by the Garden Guild as well as at The Haven, with Habitat for Humanity and Georgia’s Friends House. Volunteers can sign-up for only one day, two days, three days or all four!

Monthly Community Outreach Drive
Each month we select a community organization to support. Parishioners have opportunities to donate specific items in need for the organization. Organizations we have supported include: Stepping Stone, CVille Sock Love, The Haven, Habitat for Humanity, Abundant Life, The Westhaven Community Clinic, All Blessings Flow, Cape Ivy, Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail, the Botanical Garden of the Piedmont and Georgia Friend's House. Please keep your eye on our Sunday bulletins and email newsletter for information regarding the organization of the month.

Christ Church Jail Ministry
Since 2016, Christ Church has led weekly Bible studies at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail. Our Men's Bible study, which has reached its capacity of volunteers, meets on Thursday afternoons. Our Women's Bible study is hoping to return from a hiatus in 2025. For more information, contact Sam at sam@christchurchcville.org
Georgia’s Friends House
Christ Church partners with Georgia’s Friends House, a therapeutic and structured home to help women suffering from drug addiction and co-occurring mental challenges www.georgiasfriends.org. We annually hold a drive to support their food pantry and in Spring and Summer help to plant and tend to their gardens.
Abundant Life
Christ Episcopal Church is currently partnering with Abundant Life Ministries on Fridays to provide space and volunteers for groups of children in learning pods to support their asynchronous learning day. Other activities throughout the day include bible studies, art, and additional learning lessons. If you would be willing to volunteer for a two hour or four hour shift, please contact Melville Krebs at Melville.Krebs@gmail.com or email Outreach Minister Courtenay Evans at courtenay@christchurchcville.org.
Ecuador Mission Team
Joining Education Equals Hope (www.hopeontheground.org), in Quito Ecuador, we will help design an urban terrace garden at a local Episcopal Church. The mission is less project oriented and more relationally based and includes eating meals at parishioners homes, field trips and workshops.
