Myth #3: Habitat Homes Decrease Property Values in Neighborhoods
Is this true? Once again, we prove this myth to be false! Please read below: A question and answer with Keith Cain, a Lochlyn Hill resident.
Q: How did you learn about Lochlyn Hill?
A: “I owned a town-home just across the street from this neighborhood so I used to walk across the street to volunteer with Habitat. At the time, I owned a piece of land about 20 minutes away from town that I was going to build a house on but when I started thinking about my lifestyle, living close to the city made the most sense for me. I ended up selling that land and I bought a home during Phase II of the Lochlyn Hill redevelopment.”
Q: How did that decision work out for you?
A: “It ended up being the best decision for me, both with the location and the community. We’re really not a subdivision, we’re a neighborhood and a community. I know most of my neighbors by name and all of the ones that moved in around the same time as me.”
Q: What impacts does living in a Habitat mixed-income community have on your personal home-value?
A: “I’m honestly not concerned about the potential resale value of my home, if I ever decide to move. And really, since I purchased my house a few years ago, the prices around this neighborhood have skyrocketed. That’s great for me and it’s great for my neighbors who purchased Habitat homes. We’re all seeing an increase in home equity.”
