Habitat for Humanity's Southwood Redevelopment Project Is Underway!

We are not mythbusting this week, but instead we are introducing the Southwood Redevelopment Project-- as this project is an incredibly large and extraordinary undertaking for providing sustainable housing in our area.

Habitat for Humanity is supporting the redevelopment of the Southwood Mobile Home Park as the non profit owner, developer, and property manager. Southwood is a 100-acre trailer park with more than 1,500 residents, with the long-term goal of redeveloping the park without displacing the community. Please read and follow the links below to learn more:

For many years Habitat has been working hand-in-hand with Southwood residents to envision a future redeveloped Southwood that aligns with the dreams and values of the community. Over the last six months, earth moving has proceeded at a brisk pace with the first homes scheduled to start within a couple of months.

Residents, school administrators, local nonprofit partners, community advocates, and neighbors have lots of questions about what's happening at Southwood. As part one of many redevelopment updates soon to follow, Habitat has assembled a Southwood Redevelopment FAQ. Please read the FAQ and share it with those you're connected with who might be interested in learning more about progress at Southwood. Habitat has also updated their Southwood webpage to include a virtual tour of redeveloped Southwood, drone footage of land development activity, and a ZOOM meeting with residents and UVA Basketball Coach, Tony Bennett.

Please share this information to the community as Habitat moves ever closer to helping the first Southwood families realize their dreams.
