Letter from the Rector, Paul Walker - Stewardship 2027
Dear Christ Church Family,
One of the compelling appeals of the Gospel is its simplicity. Religion tends to be complicated. Religion asks tricky questions. Is there a God? If so, what is this God like? How am I to know this God? What does this God expect of me? The list goes on and on.
The gospel turns the whole “search” for God on its head. It turns out that God has done the searching. He came to us. He revealed Himself to us. We read in the book of Hebrews that Jesus is “the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature.” God isn’t found at the end of an intricate and intellectual search. He is found in a cradle in Bethlehem. He is found on a cross between two thieves. He is found standing outside an empty tomb on the first Easter morning.
The gospel is simply yet powerfully summed up in this verse from St. Paul’s letter to the Romans – “while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” This means – quite simply – that we are forgiven and we are given everlasting life. Our past has been made right and our future is secure. Therefore, we are free to live in the present.
Each year we ask you for your financial support. The reason we do this is also simple. We need your pledge to continue to proclaim this life-giving news to a world in need. The Good News never gets old, simply because people (us included!) are always in need. The world feels complicated. The Gospel is simple. We love because He first loved us. We give because God has already given us everything. Out of His fullness, we have been given grace upon grace (1 John 4:19, John 1:16).
Yours,
